People using phonesIs your company mobile? What does that even mean?

If a potential customer or client uses their Smartphone to search for your product or service, can they find you? Is your website mobile-friendly? Is your website mobile-optimized?

A few weeks ago, Google changed its search algorithms to reward websites that are mobile-friendly, and, therefore, penalize those that are not. Since Google has about 75% share of the search market, you want to make sure your website’s ranking is not impacted in a negative way.

If you are not sure if your website is mobile-friendly, you can test it by using your Smartphone to access your website. It should automatically direct your phone to a mobile-friendly version of your website. You can also test it here:

If your site is not mobile-friendly

Fix it now! According to Google, 94% of smartphone users use their phone to search for location information. It’s no longer an option to be marketing your business and products in the mobile space. If you want people to find you, you have to go where they are — that’s on their mobile device. Consumers spend nearly 3 hours a day on their mobile devices.

If your site is mobile-friendly

If your site is mobile-friendly, is it providing the true mobile experience a user expects? Is your site just responsive, meaning the content resizes to fit the size of the screen. Do users have to zoom in and out on the content to read it? Can they fill out forms from their phone?

About 40% of users say they have turned to a competitor’s site after a bad mobile experience and 57% of users say they won’t recommend a business with a poorly designed mobile site. Is that your mobile site?

Try using your site on your mobile devices and see what kind of experience you are providing. Is it easy for you to navigate and use all the content? You should review your site so you know what your users experience. If you get frustrated, imagine how the customer feels.
